Ray Street Custom Framing FAQs

Is all picture framing the same?
Not at all. You can, of course, pick up a mass-produced frame at a big-box store or have your artwork framed at a low-quality, high-turnover shop — but if you have a piece that requires special attention, or need a unique, custom frame, or are concerned about quality, then it’s important to know your framer. You should feel comfortable entrusting your family heirloom, priceless photograph, or investment piece to someone who is passionate about art and will work with you one-on-one to preserve and elevate your treasure.

Are all materials the same?
Absolutely not. All materials used by Ray Street Custom Framing are of the highest quality, appropriate for long-term conservation. All our glass provides UV protection, with museum-grade glass available. All mats are acid-free, archival-grade. We only carry frames made from solid wood or metal, no compressed wood scraps or plastic, including our eco-friendly wood options.

What is your turnaround time?
Ray Street Custom Framing is a small, independent operation with a current turnaround of approximately 4 weeks. We carry some handmade frames that may take up to approximately 6-8 weeks.

Can you frame three-dimensional objects or clothing?
Absolutely. We have framed antique magnifying glasses, toys, sports jerseys and memorabilia, children’s clothing, and much more. If you want it framed, we can frame it.

What about artwork that has special framing needs?
Ray Street Custom Framing specializes in the preservation and display of difficult pieces. Bring in your special piece and we will work with you on a design that artfully showcases the medium, size, age, fragility, and subject matter of your treasure.

I have several different pieces, such as photographs, memorabilia, and collectibles, that I want to display together. Can you do this in one collage?
Yes, absolutely. Collages are a beautiful way to showcase objects that have a special collective meaning. Bring in what you have, including your display ideas, and we’ll design a creative concept together.

Can you frame risqué art?
Yes. We welcome all art forms, including the risqué. Bring in your piece and let us know how we can be of service. We are happy to be as discreet as you like.

Do you work with customers outside of San Diego?
Yes. We’re happy to work with customers beyond the San Diego area. Additional packing and shipping arrangements may need to be provided. Please contact us for more details.

Do you offer services like matting and glass cutting for existing frames?
Unfortunately, no. Our main focus is creating top-quality frames and completing whole projects.
